Born in Denver, Colo. in 1961, singer-songwriter Jill Sobule dropped out of college to pursue a career in music, struggling for nearly a decade in obscurity before landing a deal with MCA. Her 1990 debut Things Here Are Different, produced by Todd Rundgren, somehow escaped public attention, and Sobule returned to her a day job as a photographer. But by 1995 she was back with a hit eponymous comeback album on Lava/Atlantic. Thanks to the songs "I Kissed a Girl" and "Supermodel" (featured on the Clueless soundtrack) Sobule returned to the spotlight, consolidating her following with 1997's Happy Town.
