IntarsiaWeb Directory

"Intarsia" is an ancient Italian woodworking method for making 3-dimensional pictures in wood. Modern intarsia scenes often use wood between .125 inches and 1.75 inches thick, fitted together like a jigsaw puzzle and attached to a backing board. The natural colors and grain patterns of different species of wood are carefully chosen to enhance the design, though some artisans prefer to use stains or dyes instead.
